Welcome to Afrosai-E Performance Audit

Performance audit is the audit of economy, efficiency and effectiveness and it is one of the six imperatives of AFROSAI-E. This site is one of the methods we will use to promote the development of performance audit in the region. It will have an archive of performance audit reports from our member SAIs and contain information on courses and training material.

The purpose with the site is also to enhance distance learning through a special discussion forum for members of our SAIs.

The Auditor General of Namibia wins the Swedish National Audit Office (SNAO) performance audit prize for 2009

A performance audit team from the Auditor General of Namibia has been selected to receive a newly founded prize for best performance audit report produced by the AFROSAI-Es members. The reports title is “Service delivery to orphans and vulnerable children in the country”. Background

The prize is financed by the Swedish National Audit Office. The purpose of the prize is to promote the development of performance audit among African Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) and to highlight the efforts of the individual performance auditors. The prize can hopefully facilitate sharing of experience and benchmarking of best practice in performance audit within the region. The prize is awarded to one team in the region on a yearly basis.
The Swedish National Audit Office organised a review team consisting of four members from the Supreme Audit Institutions of the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom and Sweden. These SAIs are all involved in partnerships with individual members of AFROSAI-E. This published Review Team Report is focused on the assessment and the qualities of the winning performance audit. The teams also comments on all the nominated reports that passed the formal assessment. Those comments are sent separately to each respective SAI and audit team.

Christmas Letter

Hi!

I have been working as the AFROSAI-E performance audit manager now for three and a half months. It has been hectic, interesting and challenging. Next year we shall work regional by revising AFROSAI-E PA manual and publicize a new guideline on maintenance. AFROSAI-E will also work bilateral on request from the member SAIs.

AFROSAI-E has, in cooperation with the Swedish National Audit Office (SNAO), launched the SNAO Prize for the best performance audit report of the year. I hope that you are in the process of finalising your submission to the competition. In response to feedback from performance auditors it was decided to effect two changes in the conditions. These two changes have been sent out to the SAIs.

  • We have open up for all kind of performance audit topics instead of only report covering efficiency and/or waiting time issues.
  • Legislated reporting requirements and/or the mandates of SAIs create difficulties to comply with the condition that the report should have been made public.
