REGULATION AND ENFORCEMENT OF STANDARDS

There are persistent press reports about the influx of substandard goods on the
Ugandan market which is attributed to insufficient inspection by the responsible
authority. It is upon this background that a performance audit was carried out to
ascertain whether UNBS is performing its role of regulating and enforcing product
standards to the satisfaction of its stakeholders. The audit covered three financial years namely 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08 at all the five UNBS Regional Offices of Mbale, Lira, Mbarara, Kampala and Jinja in addition to its Head Office at Nakawa, Kampala.
